Summary
The music flows in, low and eerie, and a figure steps onto the stage, partially hidden by the strobing lights. The body sways sensually on tall heels as they approach the pole, strobe lights revealing flashes of shiny black leather, milky white skin, raven black hair, and fishnet. As the first drop of the bass, the lights focus on the figure as they drop low against the pole, arching their body with the flexibility of a panther. The bass hits again, and the man - possibly the most beautiful man with long shapely legs - is airborne on the pole. Each move is perfectly synchronized with the pulsing bass: heels striking in time, gravity-defying poses, and dramatic drops to the ground that highlights the perfect roundness of the dancer's ass.
Wen Kexing realizes his own muscles are painfully tense. His body is poised for either fight or flight, recognizing that this man is a predator even with his mind still caught on the lithe waist and pronounced shoulder blades. This man is an unknown variable, and Wen Kexing is quickly approaching a precipice where he needs to leave now and never look back or he will be devoured.

Summary
After leaving home at eighteen, Zhou Zishu has had nothing to do with his parents' humble fruit farm, choosing instead to work for his LA cousin, a rising politician with ties to the underworld. Zishu believed he'd found his calling as an assassin - a character assassin, who holds the lives of his cousin's enemies in the lens of his camera. Zishu doesn't believe anything could ever draw him back to his childhood home for good. But his father's sudden death, coupled with the death of his own young LA protege, bring Zishu up hard against the meaninglessness of his life.
He packs a bag and heads back to Washington, planning to sell the farm and then disappear. But while he might have spent the past fifteen years trying to forget his past, the people of that past have been keeping tabs on him. He arrives in the little dirt-road town of Crossroads to find that he's been very much missed, and that leaving again might not be as simple as he thought. Particularly when he meets the beautiful and mysterious drifter, Wen Kexing, who seems just a little too good to be true.
But then, so does Zishu.
