“I was thinking back to how things were.” Before the reveal, Kafka doesn't say. Doesn't need to. “I kind of miss those times.”
“Oh, boy. Reminiscing already, are we? That's just too sweet,” Hoshina teases. Footsteps soften, mouth cradling a pensive smile. “I'll admit though - they're some pretty good memories. Let them guide you forward.”
The words break gently over Kafka, a wave worth chasing along the shoreline as it retreats. And there it is. Tangible proof of everything rattling his chest. Tugging him deeper.
“And who knows. If you're lucky, you'll get to make more.”
“Yeah,” Kafka manages weakly, words slipping off his tongue too fast. “I like the sound of that.”
“Well-” Hoshina pivots on his heels, paving the way once more. The mirth and mystery in his voice lingers. “Best keep your eyes peeled. Sometimes, the best things slip by. If you’re not careful, you could miss them…”
It makes Kafka believe he's already brave, on the verge of his becoming.

Kafka’s decision to hide his Kaiju transformation from Hoshina was a decision taken out of love and when the truth is exposed, everything falls apart and Hoshina is dragged into the fallout, accused of being complicit despite his innocence. He is put to the ultimate test... a test he is not backing down from because if there was one thing Hoshina was going to do, it was to get back his idiot. Everyone else be damned.
“I'll get out of here” the laugh that met Kafka's ears was soft, and at this point, after so many days and nights. Kafka wanted to laugh at his absurd optimism as well... saying that had become a ritual for him, even though he was beginning to lose faith in the words he spoke.
“you truly are adorable Kaiju no8” the voice chilled him to the bone “if those words give you comfort, go ahead and say them, I encourage you to say them every morning, every afternoon and every night, say them when you breath in and out, but I do advice you against holding your breath”
