Summary
A man appeared from around the corner, dressed in running gear. John couldn’t help but stare at his shiny metal arm. He was taking out his headphones and tucking them away in a pocket, walking towards the kitchen like someone who was familiar with the space.
Then he froze, his gaze landing on John. “Hey, kid. Who are you?”
“Jonathan Walker, sir.”
The look the man gave him was hard to read, but there was definitely some surprise there. That was not reassuring. Surprised adults were rarely happy.
“And who’s the kid under the blanket?”
John put a hand on the blanketed lump. He could feel Bob trembling underneath. “That’s Bob. He’s scared, he doesn’t like sports.”
“I’m not scared,” Bob squeaked. He poked his head out from the blanket, his hair even more of a mess.
The man with the metal arm stared at the both of them for a long moment, before sighing and putting his face in his hand. “Fucking unbelievable.”

And for the most part, this has never bothered her.
Glory and Lemar were the best thing she has ever had, they were her beloved children, the apple of her eye. She adored her son and daughter.
But she doesn’t like that saying all that much, considering she has chosen some of her children.
